Summer Bird and Flowers

While I was home over Memorial Day weekend, it was brought to my attention that a hummingbird had made its nest right outside the back door of my mother's house. I think my mother said it is an Anna's Hummingbird. The babies hatched just this past weekend and I'm hoping to get a picture of that or perhaps just a picture of the momma bird sitting in the nest. We'll see how that goes.

I had been working on a crocheted doily. The picture is one of 7 flowers that will be crocheted together. This was my first attempt at crochet with a teensy tiny, itsy bitsy crochet hook. My stitches were uneven so I may not include this flower in the final product, should I finish it at all.

In other news. I'm single again.
Ciao

All That Jazz

Your Power Element is Fire

Your power color: red

Your energy: hot

Your season: spring

Like a fire, you are full of power and light.
A born leader, you easily draw people toward you.
You are full of courage and usually up for anything dangerous.
You have a huge ego and love to be the center of attention.

That isn't very surprising to anyone who knows me I suppose. For half a second I thought maybe I'd be air or water, ha! I wished I were earth...like that's going to happen, I think I have like one earth sign in my whole chart.
Enough with the hocus pocus. On to what I did last weekend.

This is Q and myself in our volunteer shirts. We have a great gig over at the Embassy Suites. It's airconditoned, mostly old folks who are polite and clean up after themselves.

Our time off was the best! The Rebirth Brass Band from New Orleans headlined the Jubilee. Man, they rocked with their brand of traditional music infused with heavy funk. I mean, how can you go wrong with a song titled "Feel Like Funkin' It Up"?

Now the Red Hat Ladies up here on the North Coast think they know how to whoop it up and have a good time. But check out these Red Hatters at the Jubilee. Those are some wild, over 50 years old women. Party on Ladies! My pink hat is off to you.

This here is a picture of the "Hip Hop" coat from the 2005 Winter Interweave Knits. I am working on the second sleeve. Or, more
accurately, I think about working on the second sleeve all the time. I chastise myself about the fact that more than likely, none of my projects will be ready for the county fair. I need inspiration. What happened to my knitting yen. I mean, check me out in the pic, I'm smiling about my knitting. I need a muse.

I'll knit this weekend, I swear.

She's Alive Behind That Redwood Curtain

More posts and knitting info was/is my New Year's resolution. This should count for something albeit, I did just come up with it and we are now in April. Call me a late bloomer.

Things with Q are good, school hates me, my job is great and the fact that I have loads of time to knit makes up for the decreased wages. Speaking of knitting, I have a butt-load of projects on the burner. I'm ramping up for the County Fair in August. I have just completed my last contract knitting job of the season and now will only be knitting for the fair, all the time.

That being said, I just finished Bauble from knitty . This project is almost like instant gratification. The knitting takes no time at all. I think it took about 2 hours, maybe 3 hours, to string on all the bead and crystals. Oooh, aaaah! Look how sparkley the Swarovski crystals are. I found that the 3 1/2 yards of beaded string is too long. Garter st. as most of us know scrunches up but stretches out like nobody's business. Anyways, it helps to have extra beaded length for knitting just so your hands have something to hang onto. I knit this up once and ripped it out when I realized provisional cast-on would work better for grafting. Overall, I like this project and if you want a quick fix, this is a great bet.

Lily cat is snotty as always. Q and I were trying to get her attention the other day to give her love. She completely ignored us. What is wrong with cats like her that snub you when you want to pay attention to them, but at 4am, when all you want to do is sleep, all they do is screw with you and get hair up your nose?
Here she is in all her "fat cat" splendor.
